    Measurement of depth-dose of linear accelerator and simulation by use of Geant4 computer code

    AbstractRadiation therapy is an established method of cancer treatment. New technologies in cancer radiotherapy need a more accurate computation of the dose delivered in the radiotherapy treatment plan. This study presents some results of a Geant4-based application for simulation of the absorbed dose distribution given by a medical linear accelerator (LINAC). The LINAC geometry is accurately described in the Monte Carlo code with use of the accelerator manufacturer's specifications. The capability of the software for evaluating the dose distribution has been verified by comparisons with measurements in a water phantom; the comparisons were performed for percentage depth dose (PDD) and profiles for various field sizes and depths, for a 6-MV electron beam. Experimental and calculated dose values were in good agreement both in PDD and in transverse sections of the water phantom

    Religious attitudes and spiritual health among elderly inpatient adults in Shahrekord hospitals

    Background and Objectives: Human is a multidimensional creature and spiritual domain is the central dimension which has an undeniable effect on gaining health. The most important part of nursing care with family based approach is to help people in achieving optimal level of health. On the other hand, religious attitudes and spiritual health is an important domain of life in ageing period. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the religious attitudes and spiritual health among elderly inpatients in Shahrekord hospitals. Methods: This descriptive correlational study was conducted in 1392 in Shahrekord hospitals. A total of 308 geriatric patients who were admitted to a surgical ward, were recruited through random sampling. Two sets of questionnaires regarding religious and spiritual health were used as the instruments. After collecting the data, descriptive (frequency, mean, variance, standard deviation) and analytical (independent t test, Pearson correlation) statistics were used by SPSS statistical software. Results: The results showed that 68.8% of patients possessed large religious attitude with an average of 140.68 ±30.14. Spiritual health in 51.3 percent of samples was described to be low while the obtained average score was 86.18 ± 16.61. However, Pearson test showed that there is a positive significant correlation between religious attitudes and spiritual health (r =0.83, P =0.05). Conclusions: The present study revealed that there is a significant relationship between religious attitudes and spiritual health and people with high religious attitudes have high spiritual health

    A multi-period location-allocation model for nursing home network planning under uncertainty

    This paper proposes a multi-period location- allocation problem arising in nursing home network planning. We present a strategic model in which the improvement of service accessibility through the planning horizon is appropriately addressed. Unlike previous research, the proposed model modifies the allocation pattern to prevent unacceptable deterioration of the accessibility criterion. In addition, the problem is formulated as a covering model in which the capacity of facilities as well as the demand elasticity are considered. The uncertainty in demands within each time period is captured by adopting a distributionally robust approach. The model is then applied to a real case study for nursing home planning network in Shiraz city, Iran

    Observation of light dragging in rubidium vapor cell

    We report on the experimental demonstration of light dragging effect due to atomic motion in a rubidium vapor cell. We found that the minimum group velocity is achieved for light red-shifted from the center of the atomic resonance, and that the value of this shift increases with decreasing group velocity, in agreement with the theoretical predictions by Kocharovskaya, Rostovtsev, and Scully [Phys.     Molecular characterization and similarity relationships among sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) inbred lines using some mapped simple sequence repeats

    Information about the genetic diversity and relationships among breeding lines and varieties is not only useful for germplasm conservation and inbred line identification, but also for the selection of parental lines for quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping as well as hybrid breeding in crops, including sunflower. In order to develop mapping populations, genetic distances among twenty eight sunflower genotypes were evaluated using simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. One hundred and two markers were generated by 38 SSR loci and the mean for the number of allele per locus was 2.32. Polymorphism information content (PIC) values ranged from 0.09 (locus ha3555) to 0.62 (locus ORS598) with an average of 0.41. Jaccard's coefficient similarity matrix for the studied sunflower  genotypes varied from 0.25 to 0.9 indicating a broad genetic base. The maximum similarity (0.9) was observed between genotypes RT931 and ENSAT-R5, while the lowest similarity (0.25) was between genotypes LC1064C and LR64. Based on unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) clustering algorithm, the studied genotypes were clustered in four groups. However, some genotypes have the same specific characters that influence their clustering, and as a result, the results of the principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) largely corresponded to those obtained through cluster analysis.Key words: Cluster analysis, genetic diversity, principal coordinate analysis, sunflower, simple sequence repeat

    Theoretical Aspects of the Equivalence Principle

    We review several theoretical aspects of the Equivalence Principle (EP). We emphasize the unsatisfactory fact that the EP maintains the absolute character of the coupling constants of physics while General Relativity, and its generalizations (Kaluza-Klein,..., String Theory), suggest that all absolute structures should be replaced by dynamical entities. We discuss the EP-violation phenomenology of dilaton-like models, which is likely to be dominated by the linear superposition of two effects: a signal proportional to the nuclear Coulomb energy, related to the variation of the fine-structure constant, and a signal proportional to the surface nuclear binding energy, related to the variation of the light quark masses. We recall the various theoretical arguments (including a recently proposed anthropic argument) suggesting that the EP be violated at a small, but not unmeasurably small level. This motivates the need for improved tests of the EP.     On comparing and clustering the spectral densities of several almost cyclostationary processes

    In time series analysis, comparing spectral densities of several processes with almost periodic spectra is an interested problem. The contribution of this work is to give a technique to compare and to cluster the spectral densities of some independent almost periodically correlated (cyclostationary) processes. This approach is based on the limiting distribution for the periodogram and the discrete Fourier transform.
